Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including weapons control, the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively along with the president Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
