Based on the shadows she observed on the ground and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months perfecting a technique to convey objects with two dimensions onto canvas. The subject has been transformed into it's own representation, and the surface takes on the artist's interpretation. It is most effective when dealing with living objects as well as items that have a shelf life such as fruits or people. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is a bit ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only piece from her work that is preserved is the photograph. Trompe l'oeil is achieved by combining the two techniques of painting and photographing. The result is an unflattened and two-dimensional photograph. Meade sometimes integrates her paintings into the 3-dimensional world that surrounds them. They interact within the world she has created for herself. It eliminates any distinction between photography, painting, and installation.
