Swallow's Broadway career began with several performances that included High Fidelity (as well as King Lear and The Taming of the Shrew), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Guthrie Theater. She was involved in the development of it along with Mark Rylance. In the year 2016, Center Theatre Group cast Swallow as Ayad Akhtar The Disgraced. Swallow was cast in Guiding Light for her debut on television. After that, she was on Southland and also Ringer, The Good Wife and NCIS. The main role she played was FBI Agent Kim Fischer, in The Mentalist. She was cast in the role of Amara "the Darkness" in the eleventh season of 2015's Supernatural season. Since the beginning of 2019 she took on the title of Armorer in Star Wars: The Mandalorian. This was her debut appearance as the traditionalist Mandalorians the leader. The Mandalorians who are traditional don't take off their helmets so that others can see.
